State says Civil Administration has received new information, including maps and documents regarding land ownership, that need to be checked.
By Chaim Levinson | Jun.22, 2012The state has asked the High Court for an additional seven months to demolish the Givat Assaf outpost in the West Bank, after it had previously committed to demolish it by the end of next week.
Givat Assaf was established in 2001. The High Court has been dealing with the Givat Assaf case since 2007 when Peace Now petitioned the High Court, asking for the court to order the demolition of six illegal outposts, including Givat Assaf.
In March 2011, the state announced that the outpost would be demolished by the end of that year. At the end of 2011, the state asked for a six-month extension to July 1, 2012, so that the matter could be resolved in a peaceful manner.
Now the state is asking for another extension, this time for seven months. According to the state, the Civil Administration has received new information regarding Givat Assaf that needs to be checked and clarified. Apparently, the new data includes maps and documents regarding land ownership.
Peace Now director Yariv Oppenheimer said: "The government is again trying to avoid at the last minute demolition of an outpose. If the government has additional information, it should expose it and not hide behind mysterious claims."
